Why Computer Science?

Computer Science and technology always seemed like a form of magic to me. I was increasingly curious about the intrinsic functionality of computers, so I decided to embark on this journey to understand their nature. Moreover, Computer Science provides a pathway for me to utilize creativity to solve meaningful problems. I see technology at the forefront of the future, and I see myself being part of this movement.

What is my favorite programming language?

I have gained the most recent experience in Python through my research and personal projects. However, I also have extensive experience with C++ and Java through my school curriculum.

What is my background in Computer Science?

My journey as a Computer Scientist began in 2021 during my freshman year in college. I had a general idea of where I was headed, but over time, I’ve come to appreciate the depth of Computer Science through various coursework and experiences.

What is my greatest quality?

My greatest quality as a Computer Scientist is my ability to communicate effectively. I have a great attention to detail and excel at debugging errors. When I don't fully understand a topic, I’m not afraid to ask questions and continue growing.

Am I involved in any extracurricular activities?

My greatest involvement has been at church, where I serve as the Sound Engineer. I am responsible for controlling sound, music, and live transmissions. Additionally, I am actively involved in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), where I had the opportunity to attend the SHPE National Convention in Salt Lake City, participate in skill sessions, and attend industry talks.

What types of employers am I looking for?

I am looking for a company that shares my values and is committed to making a positive impact on the world. I want to work for an employer that provides mentorship and meaningful work. Furthermore, I seek to stay at the forefront of innovation, tackling problems through AI and its rapid development.

How has my experience as a First-Generation student been?

Navigating my path in Computer Science presented unique challenges, particularly due to the absence of mentorship. As a first-generation student and the first STEM major in my family, the journey was consistently challenging. Despite these difficulties and their impact on my confidence, they did not deter my progress. I've realized that my journey offers a distinctive perspective, and I believe that overcoming significant hardships ultimately shapes us into exceptional professionals in our field.
